Wedding Policy
Marriage is a celebration of the love that unites a man and a woman in a relationship where “they are no longer two, but one.”
Mark 10:8
We are delighted you are considering having your wedding at Lake Sarah Baptist Church. You do not need to be a member of our church family in order to be married in our sanctuary.
We are instructed in Scripture to hold marriage in high regard. To begin with, marriage is a good and gracious gift from God to us. The goal of every marriage should be to serve God and bring glory to his name. God intends that a husband and wife bear his image, work together to represent him in this world and be a light for the kingdom of heaven (see Genesis 1:26-31; Genesis 2:18-25; Matthew 5:13-16).
Second, God intends marriage to be a reflection of the glorious and beautiful union between Christ and his church. Biblical marriage is a covenant between a man and a woman, who before God, make a lifelong commitment to each other. The love that is expressed between a husband and wife is intended to be a visual expression of the love Christ has for the church (see Ephesians 5:21-6:4).
With this in mind, our goal at Lake Sarah is to support you in your marriage and point you to Jesus and his Word, which is given to us in the Bible. We hope to help you grow to know Christ better and learn how to learn from him and live like him in your marriage.
If you are interested in getting married at Lake Sarah, please contact the church office (507-763-3477), so that one of our pastors can arrange an appointment with you to discuss your wedding plans.
Prior to the wedding, couples are normally encouraged to complete a marriage assessment (Prepare/Enrich), as well as attend six sessions of pre-marital counseling with a pastor. Completion of this counseling meets the requirements of the Minnesota Statute for Marriage and makes it possible to receive a discount on the marriage license.
