Defining Moments
Esther 4:1-17   It is human nature to live by what we can see and control, not by what we cannot see or control.  Our tendency is to hold on to things that make us feel secure and comfortable, rather than step into the unknown, relying upon God.  But moving from trusting ourselves to trusting God requires a decision of the will.  Letting go of self can be the action that defines our lives in relation to God. 1".

    Mysterious Working
Esther 2:19-3:15   Most of us like to think that through thoughtful planning and smart living we can successfully direct the course of our lives.  Sometimes, life cooperates with our plans, but on many occasions circumstances beyond our control redirect our course, often resulting in surprise, confusion and even sorrow.  Fortunately, God knows the end of a matter before it has even begun, and he works mysteriously, watching over us and working all things for good.1".

    An Odd Mix
Esther 2:1-18  Life isn't always neat and tidy.  The complexities and uncertainties we face put us in a vulnerable place.  When decisions need to be made, we don't always clearly know what we should do.  The best path can be difficult to discern... The good news is that God knows the end of our story from its beginning.  And as we learn to live towards him in all matters, we can be confident that he will direct our path."9-17-17 1".

    A Dangerous Place
Esther 1:1-22  As Christians, we find ourselves daily standing on the border between two worlds - the kingdom of heaven, and the empire of this earth.  The challenge is to resist the temptation to assimilate ourselves into the patterns of our culture, but not fall into despair at the same time.  The book of Esther reveals to us how we can subversively shine the light of the kingdom into a dark empire."Sept 10, 2017 1".

    Longings
Romans 15:20-24  One of the most agonizing problems we face as human beings is that few of us live to see our fondest hopes fulfilled.  Life is often good and enjoyable, we can have many wonderful and profound experiences, yet there are always things we wish we could acquire, yet they seem to be out of reach... Rather than denying this reality, we need to come to terms with the problem of disappointed hopes, and discover within the pages of Scripture how to respond when our expectations remain unfulfilled.9-3-17 1".

    Making the Best of It
Romans 12:21   We live in a world riddled with evil, and none of us can escape its sting.  But yet, even though evil is present and brings pain and misery to our lives, God is opposed to it, more powerful than it, and has a plan in place to eliminate it forever from the face of the earth.  In the meantime, our call is to engage evil in ways that good can prevail."8-20-17 1".

    Getting Along
Romans 12:15-16   Christianity is often viewed as a narrow, rigid, rules-based club, whose members have earned their way in by presenting themselves as outwardly righteous.  It is seldom seen by unbelievers as a loving way of life... Paul presents us with insight and direction as to how we can change our approach and positively influence the well-being of others and, in turn, live Christ-like lives." 8-13-17 1".

    Discovering Beauty
Romans 12:14, 17-20  We live in a culture today that is traveling along the road called "hate" and is always trying to make war.  This movement is sure to end in destruction (Galatians 5:15).  A better road to walk is love, which is the most durable power in the world!"July 30, 2017 1".

    Inventive Service
Romans 12:13  One of the important things we need to acknowledge is that we were made to be in the life-saving business.  Paul declared, "Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others."
(1 Corinthians 10:24)  We were created for something greater than ourselves.  We were created to sacrifice and serve the needs of others.  Lifelines are needed all around us.  The question is, are we more intererested in judging, condemning and wounding, or accepting, loving and cultivating hope?..."7-23-17 1".
